MICHAEL
THOMSON

Side project on Tyneside.
Day job: Cloud Connect.
Mentoring, building, a bit of good.

Tyneside is the thing I do in the evenings because I love building teams, mentoring, and writing new bits of software. Once a week, five or six hours, we sit down and make it real — so university students and my own children get genuine commercial experience. Fun is part of the brief.

Professional experience

The weekday career. Tyneside sits beside it.

Cloud Connect Software

CTO & Co-Founder. Invoice and document data capture at scale — 50k+ invoices/year customers. ~£600k ARR with strong growth. This is the day job. Separate company from Tyneside.

CloudTrade

Head of Engineering at CloudTrade at the 2021 sale to Advanced. Hands-on product and engineering leadership in document automation and commercial delivery.

Advanced

Ex-Head of Engineering — running engineering organisations, delivery discipline, and technical direction at scale.

Background

Born Seaham, 1992. Neurodivergent. The long game is still the North East — capability, mentoring, a little prosperity passed on.

What Tyneside is

An evening project. Day jobs, courses, and school stay in place. We grow as the work asks.

A place to think differently

Through my own experience — and my children’s — I have some insight into the differing needs of neurodivergent people. We don’t discriminate: everyone is welcome. We are creating a space where we can be ourselves and think differently.

Make it real

Mentoring only works if the work is real. Live sites, real tools, the odd paying job if it fits the hours. University students who want commercial experience, and my own children, building in public rather than on paper.

A bit of good

Welcome-home cleans for new parents, local cleaning work, kit when we have it. We are pushing that forward.

What I care about

Building teams. Mentoring. New software. Paid work is welcome. Fun is part of the brief.

The hours

One evening a week, five or six hours. If this needs more of us, it will be because the work asked.

Cloud Connect Software

Day job. Separate legal company. Cloud Connect is the weekday work; Tyneside is the evening project.

What Cloud Connect does

Helps organisations that need to pull data from 50,000+ invoices a year (and similar document volumes). High volume, messy documents, real accuracy requirements.

Competes hard on flexibility and accuracy.

Leads and introductions welcome — that is the commercial work.
